Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson biopic in the works

The life rights of Beach Boys brainbox Brian Wilson, as well as that of his wife Melinda, have been purchased by River Road Entertainment, paving the way for a biopic on the pop icon’s tumultuous career.

According to Deadline, Oscar-nominee Oren Moverman (The Messenger) is currently writing the screenplay. Moverman is also working on the script for a Kurt Cobain biopic.

During the late 1960s, Wilson was overwhelmed with pressure to follow-up the Beach Boys legendary record Pet Sounds, and was haunted by The Beatles’ revolutionary Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The ambitious album Smile was prematurely abandoned (only to be released more than 30 years later), and Wilson became consumed by his mental illness and drug addiction. Excluding the occasional live performance and musical release, it took nearly two decades for Wilson to emerge from his self-imposed exile and escape his demons.

So, good movie material!

Discuss: Who can you see playing Wilson?

  1. I don’t know too much about Brian Wilson but, judging by that picture… John Lithgow or Gary Cole? But both could be too old for a young Wilson.
