The trailer for David Cronenberg’s psychological drama A Dangerous Method has appeared online – how does it make you feel?
The film marks the third collaboration for Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen, whose previous films A History of Violence and Eastern Promises delivered gritty and violent stories. A Dangerous Method looks to take a less violent path, instead focusing on how the relationship between the famed Sigmund Freud (Mortensen) and Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender) developed modern psychoanalysis.
The first trailer, however, is less concerned with the relationship between the two men, and more on the sexual relationship between Jung and a Russian patient named Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley). The trailer perhaps examines this relationship too much, and one hopes the film will weigh the two stories evenly. While I am all for a half-naked Fassbender stretched across a large cinema screen, the prospect of him and Mortensen discussing psychology is equally as sexy.
