If you felt that the only things missing from Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo were cyborgs, spaceships and dehydrated pizza, then you’re in luck!
According to Variety, Warner Bros has purchased a new script by Ian Shorr, which takes the 19th century tale and sets it in the future. WB are fast-tracking production on the project.
The book tells the story of a wrongfully jailed man who escapes from his prison island, then poses as the eponymous Count to take revenge on those who put him behind bars.
The last film adaptation of TCOMC was in 2002, and starred Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce.
Discuss: Do you think Dumas’ book could use a modern update, or is it untouchable?
