Boyle eyeing Firth and Johansson for Trance

Danny Boyle wants Colin Firth to take the spot recently vacated by Michael Fassbender in his new flick Trance. According to Twitch, Firth would join the already cast James McAvoy in the caper flick.

Scarlett Johansson is also being considered to star alongside McAvoy and Firth.

McAvoy will star as the leader of a gang of thieves who decides to hit an auction house for one giant score. The requisite ‘spanner in the works’ comes when the auction house employee lending a hand suffers an unfortunate bout of amnesia, and forgets the location of the targeted painting. Enter a hypnotist to unlock his memories.

Boyle’s flick will be a remake of a 2003 British picture directed by Joe Ahearne. Christian Colson (Slumdog Millionaire) will produce, and the film will begin shooting later this year, before Boyle moves on to the 2012 London Olympics, where he will act as creative director. Trance will be edited after the Summer Games have concluded.

Discuss: Still interested in the flick now that Fassbender is out?
