Could Jason Statham take over the Transformers franchise?

We feel dirty for even writing this story. According to … ahem … Showbiz Spy (shudder), Jason Statham is being considered to take over the Transformers series.

So, we hardly need to tell you that Showbiz Spy is about as dubious as sources come. However, it’s important to note that following Transformers: Dark of the Moon‘s $399 million opening weekend worldwide gross, Paramount would be eager to keep the franchise alive, even without the involvement of deserters Shia LaBeouf and Michael Bay.

Showbiz Spy infers that Statham is a “hot favourite” for the new lead because he’s dating T:DOTM star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Sounds like a solid lead. (Insert sarcastic emoticon.)

As Collider reminds us, “Take a grain of salt. Then find a way to make that grain into smaller grains and then take one of those micro-grains of salt and use it with this rumor”.

Discuss: Hypothetically, would you like to see a “darker” Transformers flick with Statham in the lead?

  1. he would be the best person

  2. How about without a human lead. Please?

  3. Jason Statham be still my beating heart. There’s your answer. Love him and let’s face it…you don’t need a Method actor in this franchise.

  4. Jason Statham huh? That could be interesting. Darker would be ideal as well, the trashy humour is one of the worst things about Bay’s TF movies.

  5. Jason Statham could be a great lead actor. They can make it darker and grittier for future TF flicks as they’ve done with the last two Batman flicks. Saw TF 3 recently and loved it, don’t know about Rosie though, might need a better credentialled actress to take the lead female role.

    Yes please.

  7. Any film franchise is immensely better without Michael Bay behind it.
