It doesn’t take a genius to guess why Disney would want a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, what with the fourth instalment collecting over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office and becoming the seventh highest grossing film of all time.
Of course, any sequel – and its success – would hinge on the involvement of star (and only drawcard) Johnny Depp. The good news is that Depp is close to signing up for a fifth adventure, The Wrap reports.
Just in case you were wondering why Depp would consider a fifth Pirates film, take note that he has earned close to $350 million from the series so far.
Last month it was revealed that On Stranger Tides helmer Rob Marshall hadn’t decided whether or not he would like to return for a fifth film, and that Disney were considering Tim Burton, Sam Raimi, Shawn Levy and Alfonso Cuarón as replacements.
Discuss: Would you like to see another Jack Sparrow adventure?
If I hadnt seen this fourth one… I would say yes.
But sadly, it put me off any further installments, with its clumsy stage-play-like script and performances. I mean… even the costumes were bad.
I’ve just choked on my coffee. $350 million for one actor? Kudos to Depp and his agent for brokering such an arrangement. Smart man but gee gotta be greedy to do another one. I stopped viewing after the second one. Obviously a lot of people like it.
If Disney want a fifth one, by all means go for it. It made $1B worldwide, so I don’t blame em, but honestly, #4 was pretty boring.
yes i would love it they are fantastic films
I don’t want Tim Burton anywhere near this franchise,
Yes, definitely. One of the greatest actors around!
Not sure what Gordon means by “#4 was pretty boring”. I enjoted ALL of the POC
