Teaser Debut: The Iron Lady

The first trailer for the Margaret Thatcher biopic, The Iron Lady, has appeared online.

Meryl Streep has teamed up again with her Mamma Mia director Phyllida Lloyd to bring the story of the United Kingdom’s first female Prime Minister to the big screen.

In this very short teaser trailer we’re given a glimpse of Streep in action. She certainly looks the part; although the voice is almost there one can’t help but expect her to burst into her spot on Julia Child impersonation.

In the trailer Streep sets up Thatcher’s iron-strong character, declaring “I may be persuaded to surrender the hat. The pearls, however, are absolutely non-negotiable! That’s the tone that we want to strike,” when told she would need to make some changes in order to “look and sound like the leader you could be”.

This teaser certainly does whet the appetite and we anticipate the release of a full length trailer. The Iron Lady also stars Jim Broadbent, and arrives in Australian cinemas December 26, 2011.

Discuss: Do you buy Streep as Thatcher?
