Bridesmaids director in talks for Bridget Jones 3

Bridesmaids director Paul Feig is quickly becoming the go-to guy for female-centric comedies (the irony there being, of course, he is a guy). According to The Daily Mail, Feig is in negotiations to direct a third instalment of the Bridget Jones series.

The Mail elaborates by saying the status of the film at this time “is purely rumour”, as the schedules of stars Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth are not exactly accommodating. Feig is similarly busy; he’s working on a new comedy with Jon Hamm and Melissa McCarthy, rebooting a yet-to-be-revealed franchise, and considering a Bridesmaids sequel.

The script for a third Bridget Jones adventure has been around since the second film debuted in 2004. Written by Jones creator Helen Fielding, it focuses on Bridget’s attempts to have a baby.

According to The Playlist, a Bridget Jones musical, penned by Lily Allen, will hit the West End in 2012.

Discuss: Is Feig a good fit for Bridget?

  1. Bridget isn’t interesting enough for a third movie. Move on.
