Joaquin Phoenix is attached to star in the upcoming collaboration between director Spike Jonze and screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, who previously delivered the masterpieces (we said it!) Being John Malkovich and Adaptation.
The news comes from Twitch, who also reveal that Warner Bros will distribute the flick. In March it was announced that billionairess Megan Ellison would fund the project.
Although little is known about the film, it reportedly follows a bunch of world leaders gathering “to figure out all the seismic events that will take place in the worlds, from oil prices to wars that will be waged”.
Production on the political satire is set to begin March 2012.
This is Phoenix’s second major casting coup since almost torpedoing his career with the misunderstood experiment I’m Still Here. He is currently shooting P.T. Anderson’s drama The Master (also funded by Ellison).
I for one is excited. re: Joaquin from famine to feast in his movie career and as a very fine actor he deserves it. ISH to me was an experiment that went terribly wrong and I’m glad his career recovered
