Kristen Wiig picks Imogene to follow Bridesmaids

Funny-gal of the moment Kristen Wiig is set to star in a new dark comedy thanks to the success of her recent film Bridesmaids.

Variety reports that the film, Imogene, isn’t new to Kristen, and that she has wanted to make it since last year. The screenplay was written by Michelle Morgan, a low on the radar actress/writer who penned Middle of Nowhere back in 2008; Shari Springer Bergman and Robert Pulcini (American Spendor) will direct.

Imogene will see Wiig playing “a moderately successful New York playwright who stages a fake suicide attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend, only to end up being forced into the custody of her gambling-addict mother.” Wiig describes it as “kind of a coming home story.”

Though the premise is dark we can’t wait to see Wiig tackle a black comedy.

Discuss: The big question on our lips is who will play her mother?
