Snyder’s Superman reboot Man of Steel delayed until 2013

Zack Snyder‘s Superman reboot The Man of Steel will no longer debut in 2012. According to Deadline, the film has been given 12 months breathing room, and will now unspool June 2013.

The reason the film was originally given such a short production window is due to the fact that Warner Bros only hold the rights to Superman until 2013, when it will revert back to the estates of creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Their new production/release schedule still falls within WB’s rights ownership timeframe, but they better not delay it any further, lest they end up in court.

Perhaps an expensive settlement is unavoidable for WB. Should they want to make more Superman films, they’ll have to reach a new agreement with the rights holders.

Until then, The Man of Steel is on track to arrive in cinemas 23 months from now. Henry Cavill will star as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as General Zod.

Discuss: Disappointed you’ll have to wait an extra 12 months, or are you glad they’ll be taking some more time on it?
