Last week, the first image of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman from Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises was released online. In it, we see Hathaway straddling a Batpod in a no-frills leather outfit that certainly isn’t as skimpy as that worn by Catwomen past. The fanboys were none too pleased.
Hathaway, who is getting quite good at responding to backlash, told MTV she is fully aware of the reception the picture received on the internet.
“I was not going to admit it: I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo] … And I happen to know that MTV’s reaction was ‘meh’… What I am happy to say is, if you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do … And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste”
The Dark Knight Rises arrives in Australian cinemas July 19, 2012. It also stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman. Newcomers to the series include Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Tom Hardy, as primary antagonist Bane.
I think the outfit is nice and Anne will be an amazing Catwoman. I’m looking forward to seeing what she does with the character
What’s with the backlash? Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman didn’t wear skimpy outfits and she was HOT! Halle Berry’s Catwoman looked like slut and was so unnecessarily under dressed. Bottom line, it’s not about the clothing but the script and how they are delivered.
Imagine they tried to have Batman without his hood and bat ears?
Who would accept it, no matter how well they deliver the script…
Who cares what she’s wearing. There should be a worldwide backlash against her being in the film for a start.
It needs a mask and cat ears, otherwise it’s not Catwoman – no matter what else it can do.
