Harry Potter filmmakers adapting Stephen King’s The Stand

Steve Kloves, the screenwriter of all but one of the Harry Potter films, and David Yates, director of the last four instalments of the HP series, will reteam for an ambitious adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Stand.

According to Hitfix, the duo is close to finalising a deal with Warner Bros to produce multiple films from King’s 823 page tome.

The three-part novel focuses on survivors of a superflu virus that has wiped out 99.4% of the Earth’s population. It was previously adapted as a telemovie starring Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald.

Discuss: Could The Stand be as big as a juggernaut as Harry Potter?

  1. best movie news i’ve hear in a while, if Kloves does the same thing he did in Harry Potter, ala lifting chunks of dialogue straight from the book, this’ll be great, and may finally get the image of Rob Lowe trying to play the deaf and dumb kid out of my mind
