It has become very difficult keeping track of all these Jeff Buckley biopics.
Back in June it was announced two rival Jeff Buckley films were in the works. Deadline today revealed the young actor who will play the late singer in one of those films (specifically, Jake Scott’s official, family-sanctioned flick). That actor is Reeve Carney, the star of the much-maligned Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark.
As previously reported, Penn Badgley will play a pre-fame Jeff in Dan Algrant’s Greetings from Tim Buckley, a picture that will focus primarily on his estranged father and musician.
Hidden in that Deadline article is news of a third Jeff Buckley film, being developed by Australian Mad Bastards helmer Brendan Fletcher. Little is known about Fletcher’s project, titled A Pure Drop, and based on the novel A Pure Drop: The Life of Jeff Buckley. When we spoke to Fletcher back in 2010, he mentioned working on a New York based film. Perhaps this is what he was alluding to?
