Ridley Scott to direct new Blade Runner

Director Ridley Scott is confirmed to be returning to world of Blade Runner for Alcon Entertainment.

The production company acquired the rights back in March to make either a prequel or a sequel to Scott’s 1982 sci-fi thriller, though they are not permitted to helm a straight remake or reboot.

Confirmation of Scott’s involvement as director came via Deadline and was later confirmed by Alcon, though there are no screenwriters attached at this early stage and a finished film is a long way off. Scott’s involvement should have Blade Runner fans excited, as he brings his credibility to a project that could otherwise have failed before it even began.

Alcon principal Andrew Kosove said of the project, and the thirty years since the first film’s release, “the extraordinary pace of technological advancement since the [first] movie came out means that there are a lot of opportunities to do something fresh.”

Discuss: Are you more excited about a new Blade Runner flick now that Scott is attached?

  1. I wouldn’t say that I am excited but I am somewhat relieved to know that Ridley is involved somehow.

  2. Nurse!? I need more kleenex….!

  3. Please tell me Ford isn’t doing a cameo as a grizzly old man. Or that Shia Le Bouef isn’t in it. Nor Blake Lively. Not terribly excited though.
