In our review of X-Men: First Class, we applauded the ultra-handsome Michael Fassebender not for his performance as Magneto (although he is very good), but rather for his ability to wear turtleneck sweaters. Sadly, as we have discovered from a newly released deleted scene, his gift of clotheshorsery does not extend to pulling off blue sequin dresses.
The clip comes midway through the film, when Charles/Professor X (James McAvoy) and Erik/Magneto (Fassbender) are looking to recruit young mutants for their little team of crime fighters. At a strip club, they tempt Angel (Zoe Kravitz) by revealing to her their supreme mutant powers (not like that). In the final film, Erik makes a champagne bucket levitate, leading Angel to spread her wings.
Entertainment Weekly now has the full sequence (not embeddable – sorry!), in which Charles cheekily shows off his telepathic powers by making her imagine Erik in drag. Why? We don’t know. It’s a bit strange. Check it out!
