Flatliners remake to be penned by Source Code screenwriter

Further proof that time is indeed circular: Sony is prepping a remake of Joel Schumacher‘s 1990 thriller Flatliners. This now means that films from the 1990s are ripe for the remaking.

According to Deadline, Source Code screenwriter Ben Ripley has been tapped to pen the script, which will give the flick a more contemporary feel.

The original starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt and William Baldwin as medical students who conduct secret near-death experiments.

Discuss: Are there any others films from the 90s you’d like to see rebooted, or is it just too soon?

  1. I’d love to see Hollywood LEAVE THESE MOVIES ALONE! “…a more contemporary feel”? There is honestly nothing wrong with this film. And there are great original screenplays from new writers lying in slushpiles while we stripmine the 80s and 90s for movies that just don’t need to be remade.
