Fans of The Hunger Games rejoice! After being subjected to an outrageously prolonged series of casting announcements, a dodgy animated poster and promotional photos that did little to inspire excitement, the first teaser trailer for the anticipated Gary Ross directed adaptation has arrived.
Much like its older cousin, Twilight, The Hunger Games’ teaser premiered during MTV’s Video Music Awards with a special introduction by star Jennifer Lawrence who plays Katniss Everdeen.
The teaser focuses on Katniss, who appears to already be inside the Hunger Games arena, running around dodging fireballs and collapsing trees, while childhood pal Gale’s (Liam Hemsworth) voiceover gives her a much needed pep-talk.
Overall, it’s a pretty low-budget teaser, cheap on action and details; there’s also no sight or sound of Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) at this early stage. The money shot comes towards the end when Katniss bends down and fires an arrow, her signature weapon, promising plenty of action ahead for fans.
The Hunger Games arrives in cinemas March 2012. Its sequel, Catching Fire, is already slated for November 2013.
