Model-turned-actress Gemma Ward has been cast in Baz Luhrmann’s 3-d adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby.
The news comes from Entertainment Weekly, although the specific role Ward will take on is not yet known.
Despite the tale being set in New York, the film is currently being shot in Sydney.
The project – which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan – will reportedly inject AUS$120 million into the NSW economy.
Ward is not the only Aussie in the cast. She joins Joel Edgerton (Tom Buchanan), Isla Fisher (Myrtle Wilson) and Callan McAuliffe (young Gatsby), among many others.
She was last seen – very briefly – as a mermaid in Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides.
Discuss: Obviously, as Australians, we should be glad to see so many local talents in a big production like this. But is it right for The Great Gatsby?
