The teaser for Alps – Yorgos Lanthimos‘ follow-up to his Oscar nominated nutfest Dogtooth – has arrived online. Wonderfully enigmatic and appropriately bizarre, the trailer offers nothing in the way of plot, but will surely excite those who were transfixed by the horrendous and peculiar events of Lanthimos’ previous flick.
According to IndieWire, Alps concerns “a nurse, a paramedic, a gymnast and a coach who have formed a service for hire: They stand in for dead people by appointment at the behest of relatives, friends or colleagues of the deceased”.
Don’t expect any of that to be conveyed in this short 50 second snippet, but do expect to see a subtle hint of Lanthimos’ darkly comic leanings.
Alps will play the upcoming Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. There is no Australian release date at this point. In the meantime, check out our interview with producer Athina Rachel Tsangari and our review of Dogtooth.
