Will Amy Adams star in the remake of The Orphanage?

An English-language remake of the Guillermo del Toro produced chiller El Orfanato (The Orphanage) has been in the works for a number of years, but the producers’ inability to find a leading lady had proven to be a major obstacle. Not so any more.

According to Bloody Disgusting, New Line have spoken with three-time Academy Award nominee, future Lois Lane and Muppet babysitter Amy Adams for the lead role. She would play Laura, a woman who takes over the isolated (and, as she soon discovers, haunted) orphanage where she grew up.

BD reiterates Adams has not yet signed on to star.

Arlington Road helmer Mark Pellington will direct, taking over from Larry Fessenden, who left the project in 2009 due to those aforementioned casting frustrations.

Before this remake hits cinema screens, check out J.A. Bayona‘s wonderfully spooky and profoundly sad Spanish original.

Discuss: Any fans of the original out there?
