Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson set for a cappella comedy

Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick is in negotiations to join Aussie comedienne Rebel Wilson in the new romantic comedy Pitch Perfect.

Based on Mickey Rapkin’s non-fiction novel of the same name, it focuses on “the world of collegiate a cappella groups”. 30 Rock’s Kay Cannon has adapted the book for the screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kendrick would play a rebellious goth who becomes the secret weapon for her college’s all-girl a cappella team.

The actress is no stranger to singing, having starred in the pre-Glee theater-geek film Camp early in her career. She also scored a Tony nomination – at the age of 12 – for High Society.

Wilson, who was last seen in Bridesmaids, was the first actress to join the cast. Director Jason Moore is also familiar with the world of music, having helmed the Off-Broadway hit Avenue Q.

Discuss: Does this just sound like a Glee rip-off, or could it be another Bridesmaids-quality all-girl comedy?

  1. Anna as a goth….that will be really different for her, but she is a kickass actress, so go for it! and Rebel is it also. I love it when Aussies are in American films. Go girls!!!!!! can’t wait
