Charlie Sheen books first movie since meltdown

It didn’t take long for the public perception of Charlie Sheen to shift from ‘overpaid star of sub-par TV show’ to ‘unfairly fired folk hero’ before settling on ‘deeply disturbed manic depressive who waves machetes atop buildings’.

So even though his ‘Violent Torpedo of Truth’ live variety show was a bit of a bust – and despite the fact he was pelted with bottles at the most recent Gathering of the Juggalos – it seems as though Sheen’s career might be back on track. Not only is his new TV show Anger Management (inspired by the Adam Sandler film of the same name) moving ahead, but he’s also booked his first leading role in a movie since 2003’s Scary Movie 3.

Variety reports Sheen has been cast as the title character in Roman Coppola’s upcoming film A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III. According to the article, Swan is ““a successful graphic designer whose fame, money and charm have made him irresistible to women. But when his girlfriend breaks up with him his life heads into a downward spiral.”

Sound familiar? Jason Schwartzman is attached to star opposite Sheen.

Coppola – son of Francis and brother of Sofia – previously directed the indie CQ as well as a number of music videos. He also co-wrote The Darjeeling Limited with Wes Anderson and Jason Schwartzman, and similarly helped pen Anderson’s upcoming feature Moonrise Kingdom.

Discuss: Could a Somewhere-type dramedy be the perfect vehicle for Sheen’s rehabilitation?
