Trailer Debut: Premium Rush

Bike couriers have the most exciting job in the world. That is, if the newly released trailer for the Joseph Gordon-Levitt vehicle (or should that be, bicycle?) Premium Rush should be believed.

Written and directed by David Koepp, the film centres on New York’s best messenger (Gordon-Levitt) who tries to deliver a mysterious package whilst fending off the aggressive advances of a shady cop (Micheal Shannon).

It’s been a while since I’ve been to New York, but I don’t recall seeing that many bike messengers executing Mat Hoffman-esque moves as they navigate the city. That being said, the perfectly silly action sequences in this trailer are mighty fun; Koepp drags us right into the hustle and bustle of NYC. Hopefully the film can deliver on the energetic, nutty promise of this teaser.

Check it out and share your thoughts below.

Interestingly, novelist Joe Quirk filed a lawsuit against the makers of the film last month, citing his 1998 novel Ultimate Rush, which features many of the elements seen in this film (although the messenger in his book used in-line skates).

It is unknown if the suit will affect the picture’s January U.S. release (an Australia date is expected early 2012).

Discuss: Silly fun, or just plain stupid?
