Trailer Debut: J. Edgar

Old age make-up. Tricky accent. Leonardo DiCaprio has his work cut out for him in Clint Eastwood‘s J. Edgar, a biopic on the life of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.

Although shooting began a mere seven months ago, the notoriously fast-moving Eastwood already has a trailer for us to enjoy. As well he should – the film opens in U.S. cinemas this November!

Armie Hammer stars as Hoover’s right-hand man (and eventual lover) Clyde Tolson, and Naomi Watts appears as his secretary Helen Gandy.

Watch it in HD over at Apple!

J. Edgar was penned by Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for his work on another political biopic, Milk. Interestingly, a review of the script by Libertas Film Magazine describes Hoover and Tolson’s relationship as “chaste”, and that “they just talk about fashion together”. Transgressive!

J. Edgar arrives in Australian cinemas January 19, 2012.

Discuss: Can Leo secure an Oscar in this very baity-looking biopic?

One Response to “Trailer Debut: J. Edgar”

  1. All the makeup in the world couldn’t make Leo as unattractive as the real J. Edgar. They would have been better off using Danny DeVito in an ugly mask! I wonder if Clint gets Leo to cross-dress like Hoover did? It looks interesting though; I’ll see anything directed by Clint Eastwood or starring Di Caprio. They’re not always great but they’re always good.
