John Singleton and Ice Cube working on N.W.A. movie

Boyz N the Hood director John Singleton is considering reuniting with Ice Cube on a new project about influential rap group N.W.A.

The Playlist reports Singleton spoke about the prospect of this project, tentatively titled Straight Outta Compton, at a press conference for his latest film, Abduction.

Singleton said, “I can’t talk about it too prematurely, about the stuff I’m doing, because nothing’s come to fruition yet, but Cube and I are talking about doing the N.W.A. story. The script is really, really good, and so we’re just figuring it out. New Line really wants to make it.”

Ice Cube announced back in 2009 that he intended to produce a film about the group, of which he was a member, but this latest development sounds as though it has some weight behind it. Four writers have reportedly signed on to the project already with Cube on board as co-producer.

  1. Sign me up. ‘Rap’ these days is nothing compared to that mid 90’s west coast scene. In fact I’m going to listen to some N.W.A. right now.
