In one of the hottest pieces of casting news of recent times, Variety has confirmed Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Aaron Paul, Octavia Spencer and Nick Offerman have joined the cast of upcoming dramedy Smashed.
Inspired by the Blake Edwards‘ 1962 film Days of Wine and Roses, this indie film directed by James Ponsoldt will be about a marriage which revolves around the couple’s mutual adoration of booze. When one partner decides it’s time to sober up, the relationship is put to the ultimate test.
Winstead (known for playing Ramona in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Paul (best known for his role as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad) are said to be in talks to play the married couple. Meanwhile Spencer (last seen in The Help) will play Winstead’s friend and AA sponsor, while Offerman (Parks and Recreation’s Ron Swanson) will tackle the assistant principal role at the school Winstead works at.
