There is nary a project out there in which X-Men: First Class‘ Michael Fassbender isn’t wanted for the lead role (and that won’t likely change after the release of Steve McQueen’s Shame, for which Fass is courting plenty of Oscar buzz).
Brazilian director José Padilha (Elite Squad) spoke about his desire to score Fassbender (or rather, ‘The Fassbender’) for his upcoming reboot of Robocop on his hometown channel Globo 1.
Transcription and English translation courtesy of Bleeding Cool:
” I really like the Fassbender, I’d like to talk to him — I’ll talk to him. There’s a possibility… and there’s a lot of other great actors that would play Robocop.”
Padilha – who is picking up the project where director Darren Aronofsky left off – also revealed he is currently reworking the script in Rio, and hopes to begin shooting in the early months of 2012.
The original 1987 Robocop was directed by Paul Verhoeven, and starred Peter Weller as good cop Alexander Murphy, who is killed in the line of fire and resurrected as a law enforcement cyborg.
