Bridesmaids helmer and Freaks and Geeks creator Paul Feig has walked away from Bridget Jones 3 after spending several months working on the script with an eye to direct.
According to Deadline, the split between Feig and Working Title Films/Universal Pictures was amicable, and that “both sides agreed … that maybe this is just a quintessential British comedy that needs a British sensibility”.
Feig is still hot property though; he’s working on a new comedy with Jon Hamm and Melissa McCarthy for Judd Apatow, rebooting a yet-to-be-revealed franchise, and considering a Bridesmaids sequel (although Hamm doubts it will ever happen).
In the meantime, the studios are on a look out for a Brit to helm Bridget 3. Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth are all set to return, with production kicking off in January.
Discuss: Anyone in particular you’d like to see get the gig?
