The first trailer for Young Adult has made its online debut and sees Charlize Theron channelling her inner teenager.
Written by Diablo Cody (Juno) and directed by Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank You for Smoking, Up in the Air), it’s the first collaboration for the pair since teaming up to tell the story of that quirky teen pregnancy back in 2007.
Young Adult sees Mavis (Theron), a divorced fiction writer, return to her hometown to rekindle a relationship with an ex-boyfriend, Buddy (Patrick Wilson), who is now married. Along for the ride – and to trying to stop Mavis from making a complete fool of herself – is Patton Oswalt as the token chunky, funny friend.
Mavis is ‘the girl you hated in high school’ and Theron plays her, at least in the trailer, to a tee. Bordering on grating, the trailer gives the impression Cody has hit another home run, but only time will tell.

Young Adult arrives in U.S. cinemas late December, with an Australian release to follow in the new year.
Discuss: Will you be able to stand an entire movie’s worth of Mavis?
Seems like we will have new character to add to that stalker list
