Trailer Debut: The Avengers

Hold on to your hammers! The trailer for Joss Whedon’s Marvel team-up flick The Avengers has travelled across the rainbow bridge and landed online for our viewing pleasure.

Surely by now we don’t need to go on about why this is terribly exciting. We’re looking forward to it; you’re looking forward to it. Let’s just enjoy the trailer, shall we?

You can watch it in HD over at Apple.

As we know, The Avengers are made up of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and SHIELD Agents Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg).

This new trailer – which is far longer and better than the teaser that played at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger – has a few moments worth noting (beside all the expected awesome, explodey ones).

  • Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) seems to have a real beef with Tony Stark (aka Iron Man), which means the power struggle between the two will most definitely be addressed (many wondered how Evans’ Captain would fare as leader of The Avengers when Downey Jr.’s Stark is essentially the film’s headliner).
  • Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki is going to be a much more threatening antagonist than he was in Thor. Also, Thor himself gets a real kick out of Stark’s jibes.
  • Black Widow will not say much (if anything).
  • The CGI Hulk looks about the same as it has in previous instalments (there ain’t that much room to grow when you’re dealing with a big green dude).
  • Bow and arrow enthusiast Hawkeye is going to have a hard time justifying his place next to a super-soldier, a giant monsters, a power-suited billionaire, a Norse God and Samuel L. Jackson.

The Avengers arrives in cinemas May 2012.

Discuss: Right? Right?!
