Cannonball Run remake in the works; Ritchie directing Pitt and Clooney?

Here’s an odd one. General Motors may put up the cash for Warner Bros.’ reboot of Cannonball Run, which the studio wants Guy Ritchie to helm.

It gets crazier. According to Vulture, Ritchie would like to recruit Brad Pitt, George Clooney and some of their Ocean’s Eleven co-stars to appear in the flick.

The original Cannonball Run films – all about a wild cross-country race – were something of a superstar smörgåsbord, so it’s no surprise WB wants to populate the film with some big names.

Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Night at the Museum) is also reportedly interested in taking on the project, and he wants Ben Stiller to star.

Rumours of this remake first emerged back in February, but back then it was merely twinkle in WB’s eye. With heavy-hitters like GM potentially ponying up the dough – in what would surely be one of the biggest product-placement deals in history – this thing may kick into gear quite quickly.

Discuss: Who could possibly replace Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise though? No one, that’s who.
