Channing Tatum to play Steve Carell’s murder victim in Foxcatcher

Bennett Miller‘s Foxcatcher is fast becoming one of our most anticipated upcoming releases, which we think is a rather tempered response to a film starring Steve Carell as real life chemical fortune heir, paranoid schizophrenic and convicted killer John du Pont. Now it seems Channing Tatum, who is making a habit of taking on unconventional projects, could join in on the fun.

According to 24 Frames, Tatum is in talks to star as du Pont’s murder victim, Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz.

A sports enthusiast, du Pont built a wrestling facility (called Team Foxcatcher) on his enormous estate. It was on this estate that he shot and killed Schultz, after which he holed himself up in his mansion and negotiated with police for two days.

Dan Futterman – who penned Miller’s first film Capote – has written the Foxcatcher script with E. Max Frye.

Discuss: Carell and Tatum will really need to prove they’ve got some dramatic chops in this one. Do they have it in them?
