New Line has preemptively acquired a script by Bridesmaids‘ break-out star, recent Emmy winner and future Oscar nominee (we’re calling it!) Melissa McCarthy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script – titled Tammy – tells the story of an overweight woman who decides to go on a road trip with her “alcoholic, foul-mouthed, diabetic grandmother” after she’s fired from her job and discovers her husband is cheating on her.
Sounds similar to two (count ’em: two) upcoming Seth Rogen films. The first, My Mother’s Curse, sees Rogen going on a road trip with his mother (Barbra Streisand). The second, Jamaica, will be produced by Rogen, and follows a young man’s holiday with his grandmother.
Regardless, if Melissa McCarthy is working, we’re happy! She is also set to co-star opposite Jon Hamm in an “unconventional love story”, with her Bridesmaids director Paul Feig and producer Judd Apatow at the helm. McCarthy has also lined up ID Theft with Jason Bateman.
