Warner Brothers has chosen Ben Affleck to adapt and direct The Stand, Deadline reports.
Affleck has proven his directorial chops with Gone Baby Gone and The Town, and is now tapped to tackle the 1978 apocalyptic Stephen King novel, which has previously been adapted into a miniseries.
If Affleck accepts the job it’s said to be a big test for him, with King reportedly wary of how his book will translate to the big screen. It’s believed the studio may adapt the novel into a trilogy franchise, similar to the book’s structure consisting of three parts or “books”.
Prior to Affleck being frontrunner for the job, David Yates (director of the last four Harry Potter films) was rumoured to be attached with writer Steve Kloves (Harry Potter, The Amazing Spider-Man).
Affleck is currently working on the film Argo with George Clooney and has yet to publicly announce his involvement in The Stand.
And think he does…
