Warner Bros preps Sherlock Holmes 3

Although Guy Ritchie’s second Sherlock Holmes film is still a few months away from hitting cinemas, Warner Bros are showing a massive sign of confidence in the franchise by hiring a screenwriter to begin work on a third instalment.

According to Deadline, Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) is set to pen the next adventure featuring Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his bromantic companion-in-crime-solving Watson (Jude Law).

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows – also starring Noomi Rapace and Jared Harris as Holmes’ nemesis Professor Moriarty arrives in U.S. cinemas December 16, before bowing in Australia January 5, 2012.

No doubt WB hopes A Game of Shadows repeats the success of its predecessor, which grossed $524 million worldwide off a $90 million budget (while competing in cinemas opposite Avatar, mind you).

Discuss: Would you like to see a third Sherlock Holmes?
