Beverly Hills Cop: The TV Show?

Eddie Murphy wants Beverly Hills Cop to join the likes of Zombieland, The Kids Are All Right, Source Code, The Blues Brothers and Napoleon Dynamite, and get its own TV show.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the future Oscar host revealed that he has no interest in making a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie, but is interested in adapting it for TV.

“What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong.”

Head on over to Rolling Stone for a few more excerpts from his interview, including his response to allegations that he stormed out of the 2007 Academy Awards ceremony after losing the Best Supporting Actor award to Alan Arkin.

Discuss: Who could you see playing Axel’s son? And would Axel ever really be promoted to ‘chief of police’?
