Kristen Wiig is set to star alongside Robert De Niro in Sean Penn‘s upcoming directorial effort The Comedian, according to international distributor Film Nation.
Don’t be fooled into thinking this is a comedy though! Despite the title and Saturday Night Live star Wiig’s recent box office hit Bridesmaids, the film is reportedly a drama. Also, Sean Penn is behind the camera, and his past features haven’t exactly been yuk-fests.
De Niro will play a past-his-prime comic trying to revitalise his career, aided by a “dazzling and defiant redhead” (Wiig).
Production begins mid-2012.
