Liam Hemsworth could invade The Host

Liam Hemsworth tops the list of actors being considered for the Andrew Niccol-directed adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s The Host, Variety reports.

With Meyer’s Twlight Saga coming to an end and Niccol’s latest film In Time now in cinemas, attention has been turned to their upcoming project: adapting Meyer’s mammoth sci-fi novel to the big screen. Slated for a 2013 release, The Host is set to be the first in a trilogy.

Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) has been cast as the female lead, Melanie Stryder, as well as the alien who inhabits her body, named Wanderer. Now the process of casting the two male leads begins.

Joining Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) in the race to play Melanie’s boyfriend Jared are Kit Harington, Jai Courtney and Max Irons. For the role of Ian, who falls for the alien Wanderer, are Dane DeHaan, Thomas McDonnell, Augustus Prew and Jake Abel. All in all, it’s a big bag of strapping young men.

Discuss: Does The Host have the promise to be as big as Twilight?
