Harold and Kumar head to TV screens

On the heels of their latest film, A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas, Deadline reports Lionsgate TV is shopping around rights to an animated Harold and Kumar show.

Following in the stoner tradition of Cheech and Chong, Harold and Kumar first appeared on our screens back in 2004’s Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. They followed that in 2008 with Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and are set to capitalise on the 3D trend in their upcoming holiday film.

Deadline cites MTV and Comedy Central as among the stations showing interest in the animated series, which would be aimed at a more mature audience in the vein of Beavis and Butthead or Family Guy.

Apparently writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who penned the original film, are onboard to write and produce while stars John Cho and Kal Penn will lend their voices and co-produce.

Discuss: Yet another movie-turned-TV-show! How do you feel about this trend?
