Eddie Murphy quits Oscar gig; Grazer brought in to replace Ratner

Eddie Murphy‘s stint as Oscar host is over before it even began. The actor has officially pulled out of the high-profile gig following the exit of producer Brett Ratner yesterday.

Ratner stepped down after a series of controversial remarks landed him and the Academy in hot water.

Wasting no time in replacing Ratner, Academy President Tom Sherak announced Oscar-winner Brian Grazer as producer of the 2012 Academy Awards telecast.

According to Deadline, Grazer will not try to bring Murphy back into the fold, despite early reports the Academy wanted to retain him as host.

Discuss: So, who would you like to see MC the big show? Is it Neil Patrick Harris’ time?

  1. Get NPH on board, he’s done the Tony’s and Emmy’s, he just needs the Grammys and the Oscars and he’ll have the hosts EGOT
