Breaking Dawn Part 1 rated MA in Australia (Update: Not anymore…)

UPDATE: The Classification Board has overturned the rating. Hoyts Distribution has revealed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 is now merely rated M. Original story as follows.

Breaking Dawn Part One – the penultimate instalment of The Twilight Saga – has scored a series-first MA 15+ rating in Australia for ‘Strong themes’.

This MA rating means people under the age of 15 will have to be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian if they wish to see the latest sexy/weird adventures of R-Pattz, K-Stew and Tay Tay.

Considering the average age of the series’ tween fanbase, this is definitely a blow for Australian distributor Hoyts. All prior instalments have been rated M.

Ratings’ watchdog website Refused Classification tweeted late last week that the Board would meet today to reconsider the restrictive classification

Meanwhile, for those of us over 15, get ready for some freaky interspecies action regardless!

More news as it develops.

Discuss: Has this higher rating been a long time coming for the supernatural saga?

  1. I think that this is an appropriate rating for the movie cause the stuff that happens in the book are really graphic. luckily i am over 18. haha
