Netflix have made a huge… well, whatever the opposite of a mistake is! The online US movie rental company will air a new season of the beloved TV show Arrested Development.
Despite being axed in 2006, AD’s cult following has been clamouring for a new movie or more episodes (either way, they’re not picky).
After years of rumours about a film beginning production, creator Mitch Hurwitz and the cast revealed this October they were planning a short-run series to precede a feature-length adventure.
According to Deadline, Netflix outbid a major cable network to screen the show for its subscribers. 20th Century Fox Television, who aired and subsequently pulled the plug on the program five years ago, will produce with Imagine Television.
Star Jason Bateman tweeted his excitement:
“Netflix is gassing up the staircar! I don’t think I’ve ever been happier to wear a pair of khakis.”
Executive producer and Ron Howard similarly expressed his happiness over Twitter:
“Gotta warm up my throat and start practicing…. “it’s Arrested….Development… Many thanks to you ever-so-vocal Arrested Development supporters Wouldn’t have gotten here without you.”
It is believed new episodes could debut as early as 2013. It is at this point unknown how they will be made available to international viewers. More news as it develops.
Discuss: We asked for it, and now we’ve got it. But do we really need it?
