Scarlett Johansson to make directorial debut with Capote novella

Actress Scarlett Johansson is set to make her directorial feature debut with Summer Crossing, a film based on the novella by Truman Capote, Variety reports.

It won’t be Johansson’s first time behind the camera, with the star of Lost in Translation and the upcoming The Avengers making her debut on a short film called These Vagabond Shoes. The film was intended to be run as part of the 2009 collaborative project New York, I Love You, but her film was excluded for not fitting into the larger picture’s tapestry.

Summer Crossing will be adapted by screenwriter Tristine Skyler and tells of a young New York socialite named Grady and the relationship she is pursuing, which may have dire consequences for everyone involved.

While the original story is set in 1945 there is no word on whether the period will remain the same or whether Johansson will also star in the film.

Discuss: Watch These Vagabond Shoes here and let us know if Johansson has the chops.
