Star Trek 2 (in 3D) gets a release date

Paramount Pictures has officially set a date for J.J. Abrams’ 3D sequel to Star Trek: May 17, 2013. Mark your calendars accordingly!

According to Deadline, Abrams will co-write the screenplay with Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

The tentatively titled Star Trek 2 was originally slated for a June 2012 release, but the slot was given to G.I. Joe 2 when it became apparent the preoccupied Abrams would be unable to meet the deadline.

The primary cast of the 2009 Star Trek are all set to return. Earlier this month it was rumoured that Benicio Del Toro was in talks to play the film’s villain.

Discuss: Can you wait a year and a half for the next Trek adventure?
