Ben Whishaw will play gadget whiz Q in the upcoming Bond film Skyfall, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
While Whishaw (Bright Star) was listed amongst the film’s cast at the start of November, it has now been revealed he will take on the role last played by John Cleese in 2002’s Die Another Day. Q was originally portrayed by Desmond Llewelyn for 36 years.
Not only will Whishaw be resurrecting the character for the Sam Mendes directed film, but his turn will mark the first time in Bond history that Q is younger than Bond himself. Currently filming, Skyfall sees a 43-year-old Daniel Craig reprise the legendary role while Whishaw is only thirty-one.
Skyfall also stars Dame Judi Dench (reprising the role of M), Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe. Here’s the official logline:
“Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”
It arrives in cinemas November 22, 2012.
