Starship Troopers to be rebooted

Sony is gearing up to reboot Paul Verhoeven‘s sci-fi satire Starship Troopers, Vulture reports.

The first Troopers was released in 1997, making it fourteen human years old and approximately eighty-five in Hollywood years. It’s surprising this ancient franchise hadn’t been rebooted already!

It follows in the remake-footsteps of Verhoeven’s other features Robocop and Total Recall.

Producer Neal Moritz has tasked Thor screenwriters Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stenze to pen the new take.

Hopefully the remake will retain the barbed political commentary of the original, though we wonder what the odds of a second picture in which American military strategy is portrayed as fascist can sneak through the studio system.

Discuss: Would you like to see Starship Troopers 2.0?

One Response to “Starship Troopers to be rebooted”

  1. Despite what I’d heard about the original novel, it’s not really as sabre-rattling as its reputation would suggest. It’s gung-ho, to be sure, but the politics isn’t near as front-loaded as you may have heard. I love the Verhoeven film (even if, at heart, it parodies the book), but am all for a different take, especially if it turns out closer to the novel.

I like that Miller and Stenz are involved, but a little nervous about Moritz producing. That could be PTSD from The Bounty Hunter talking, though…
