Game of Thrones directors considered for Thor 2

Marvel Studios are eyeing directors Alan Taylor and Daniel Minahan for Thor 2, THR reports.

It was only last week that news broke of Patty Jenkins retiring from the forthcoming sequel; she had been hired to replace Kenneth Branagh, who bowed out earlier this year. The appointment of Jenkins marked the first female director to helm both a Marvel film and a big budget superhero/comic book flick, but creative differences have put this on hold.

Both Taylor and Minahan are well known for their television work, notably sharing credits on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Taylor has also worked on episodes of Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos and Mad Men, while Minahan has True Blood, Deadwood and Grey’s Anatomy under his belt.

Meanwhile the film has yet to pin down a screenwriter, with a draft reportedly having been written and a new shortlist of writers said to include John Collee (Happy Feet), Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) and Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction).

Discuss: Do you think these TV vets have the chops to direct a blockbuster like Thor 2?
