New look at Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows

There’s a new image of Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows making the rounds online. And you need only cast your eyes downward slightly to glimpse it (courtesy of STYD)!

Although we’ve reached a point in which we’re no longer excited for Burton’s cinematic output, the imagery released so far, and the fact that this is an adaptation of a supernatural 60s soap opera about a family of vampires,  has us intrigued.

The cast – which includes Chloe Grace MoretzEva Green, Bella HeathcoteJackie Earle HaleyJonny Lee Miller, Michelle Pfeiffer, and, of course, Helena Bonham Carterr – helps too.

Screenwriter John August turned in a version of the script back in 2009, when the film was set to shoot in September 2010. Production was delayed by a year, and in that time Pride and Prejudice and Zombie‘s Seth Grahame-Smith tried his hand at the screenplay.

Dark Shadows arrives in cinemas late 2012.

  1. No, you’ve got it all wrong. This shot was taken during Depp’s unsuccessful audition for the Lisbeth Salander part in “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”. Rooney Mara got that role but ended up looking like Edward Scissorhands’ sister anyway.

  2. Very disapointed. He is such a good looking guy and would’ve made such a good looking vampire. Dont agree with how he looks in this movie at all. I am not nearly as excited about it as I was when I first heard about it. Such ashame.

  3. Good to see that they are using the original Barnabas Collins hairstyle.

  4. Soooo excited to see this. Its got Michelle Pfeiffer and Chloe Grace Moretz in it too. I love ANYTHING Tim Burton touches. Can’t wait for Frankenweenie too.

  5. Looking at the photo without reading the article, I thought Depp was in a Twilight spoof. Not a good first impression, or one that Burton would be hoping for. Very unexcited. Vampires are now zzz…..
