The Artist takes top prize at PGA awards

Can nothing stop black-and-white silent film The Artist from taking home the Best Picture Oscar? Although it has seemed like a lock for some time now, it’s recent victory at the Producers Guild of America (PGA) awards further cements its status as an Academy Award scooping certainty.

The Michel Hazanavicius directed picture bested Bridesmaids, The Descendants, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Help, Hugo, The Ides of March, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball and War Horse.

The Adventures of Tintin won the award for Outstanding Animated Theatrical Motion Picture, and Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest triumphed amongst documentaries.

Downton Abbey, Modern Family and Boardwalk Empire took home the top prizes in the television categories.
